Office of Local Headmen in Ayong of Yunnan
The Ayong Local Headmen’s Office is located in the western side of Ayong Street of Yangjing County in Guang Nan County. There were three divided offices in ancient times, the large, the medium and the small ones. But nowadays, the only existing one that the foreigners who learn Chinese language in China can see is the small office which is an architecture group of three halls with two enclosed courtyards style. In the main part, there are three rooms which with a length of 13.17 meters, a width of 9.7 meters and a height of 6 meters.
The upstairs are the places for the local officers to discuss the official business while the downstairs are low and mainly for putting other things. The corridors are decorated with the carving of the patterns of Chinese dragon, phoenix, and lotus and so on. All of them are exquisite in handicraft, imitating the style of Han people. One important thing that you should know when you study at Chinese school in China is that the shape of the whole house belongs to the wooden pole style of Dai people which was built in Ming Dynasty but still well-preserved.
The best season to visit there is from March to November because the climate is warm and the land is fertile and the rainfall is sufficient. Firstly, you can go to the North Station of Wenshan city to buy the bus tickets to go to Guang Nan County, which will take you about three hours. When you arrive in Guang Nan, you can stay in the ordinary guesthouse or starred hotel.
If you visit Guang Nan, it will be a great regret if you do not taste the famous Babao rice which is the national high quality rice in China. It got the name because it is produced in Babao Township. In ancient times, it was the tribute rice for the emperors. Of course, the scented tea in bamboo box and Nalang wine is worthwhile to enjoy. With a manufacture history of 300 years, the scented tea in bamboo box is the traditional specialty of Huang people and is one of the ten high quality famous teas in Yunnan province. It is also called lady tea because it is picked by the unmarried lady.
