When processing the practice of the words meanings guessing, it mainly depends of really “guess”. Therefore, some of the students may guess disorderly during the process of learning Mandarin Chinese. Then teachers should take measures to avoid it. Firstly, the students should be demanded to tell the reason of guessing like this. In this way, the students will guess the words meanings with sufficient reasons. In addition, if the students guess wrongly, teachers should also lead them to find of the reason of wrongly guessing and tell them how to guess correctly.

The second method is to bring the meanings guessed back to the original sentences to check whether it is right or wrong. For example, to choose the proper one from 照顾、担心、考虑 and 真实 for 顾虑, teachers in Chinese language school can replace 顾虑 in the original sentence 我想说什么就说什么,非常轻松自由,没有了现实生活中得顾虑 with the four words. Then, it is much easier to choose the perfect one 担心.

Of course, the teachers should make full use of various approaches to check the results of guessing, improving the success rate. For example,他吃了两个糍粑,现在不饿了. According to the components of the words 糍粑, we can see both of the two characters are related to 米. Therefore, you can guess it may have something to do with rice or food. Learners who study Mandarin Chinese may also notice the quantifier 两个and the verb 吃, which indicate that 糍粑should be edible things related to rice. Besides, in accordance with 现在不饿了, you will know it is a kind of food to fill the belly.

Some of the students may guess the meanings of words in one way and to check them with another way. As long as it makes sense, they can make sure they guess it correctly. Such training is helpful for students to master various skills in guessing the words meanings, and also improving the success rate, thus avoiding their fluke mind when it comes to guess the meanings of the new words.
