When foreign learners study Chinese, they should learn the compound words of the structure"verb + adjective". The morphemes before such kind of words are usually verbal, indicating a certain motion. And the morphemes after it supply and illustrate the result of the motion. Foreigners who study Chinese should know the words of this structure can be used to answer the question like 做得怎么样 or 做的结果怎么样了. For instance, 说服 means the result of 说 is 服了.

In the same way, we can guess the meanings of the words like 改善、推翻、摧毁、扩大 and 压缩. If students who learn to speak Chinese know the meanings of the two morphemes and know clearly the features of this structure, they can guess the meaning of the whole word. Sometimes, you can also guess the general meaning of the word even you do not the meaning of one morpheme when you study Chinese. For example, you may only know 压 but not know 缩 in 压缩. Then teacher can lead them that 缩 is the result of 压 and they will understand.
