Predicate-object Compound in Chinese

Author:Keats Chinese Language School | Date:2012-02-14 11:44:40|Read: 171

The predicate-object compound is an important point in Chinese language. When you study Chinese, you should know the morphemes in the former part are usually verbal while the latter are mostly nominal, forming the structure of verbs +nouns. The former morphemes dominate the latter ones. For example, 管家, what 管 does is 家. In this way, when the students study Chinese, they can understand the meanings and structures of Chinese words much easier.

In addition, if you learn Chinese words like 超额, 关心 and 留神 when you are studying Chinese in China, you can guess the meanings in the same way. If the students know the meanings of these two morphemes and realize the features of this structure, they will probably know the meanings. For instance, students may know the meaning of  防 is to prevent but do not know 疫. But some students who study Chinese can guess it may relate to the disease according to the forms. Then, they will know it means to prevent diseases. Sometimes, learners can guess the meanings even if they just know one morpheme.
