Practicing Chinese by Writing Love Letters

Foreigners should be able to write some practical writings when they study Chinese. An interesting way to practice this is to write a marriage-seeking advertisement. Firstly, teachers find one marriage-seeking advertisement for man and one for woman from the internet or magazines. After reading the ad carefully, the students should write one for his friend following the order of the samples. It would be better if the teachers ask students who study Chinese to read the ad they write. Then the other students make comments on the advertisement.

Writing love letters is also helpful for the students to practice the impromptu writing when they learn to speak Chinese. The students may not be the lovers but they can imagine the image of the person they love. Then, they should write a letter to the love one and express their feeling. It would be better if this exercise is practiced before the day of the Valentine’s Day. In order to increase their interest to study Chinese, teachers can ask students to read the letters they write. But teachers should not tell them about this process before they write letters.
