How Many Foreigners are Learning Chinese?

Since the Chinese Year was held in France, many more reports about the Chinese fever phenomena in foreign countries appeared. Some media started to report the numbers of the foreigners who study Chinese. Some said the number in 2009 reached 40 million and some claimed 100 million in the end of 2010. Some of the foreign learners may hear the news that some experts predict the foreigners who study Chinese will be as many as 150 million in the year of 2013. Even though we do not know how the number comes, but we are sure of that the Chinese speakers are not included.

One thing you may be interested when you are studying Chinese in China might be the distribution of the Chinese language learners. In Japan, Chinese is the second foreign language after English. There are about 2 million people are leaning Chinese by all means there. Koreas has more than one million people like Chinese language. France has the most people who study Chinese in European countries, about 50 thousand people. You can also see many people learn Chinese language in the US.
